Western RFU Playoffs (April 30 & May 1)

Austin Rugby Club will be hosting the Western Rugby Football Union Territorial Championships the weekend of April 30 & May 1 (SAT & SUN).

A draft schedule is published on the TRU Calendar and the official schedule is posted on the WRFU.ORG website:

Our Texas teams start the tournament off with Austin II playing Sioux Falls Crow at 930am on Field One to be followed by defending champion Northern State versus DARC at 1100am, also on Field One.

Fort Worth will be playing a team TBD from Eastern Rockies @ 1230pm on Field Two.

The Rugby Texas winners will also be playing with two sides from U19 Club and two sides from U19 Single school. Teams to be confirmed and update.

The Texas Rugby Referee Association will be working with the Western Rugby Referee Association to coordinate teams of 4 on all matches. Thanks to Jim Wolfinger, James Summers, Chris Kelly and Richard Zdunkewicz for all their help during the year as well as the efforts to coordinate and staff this event.

TOLA Sevens 2011 Update

Good Day,

It is with great pleasure that I introduce David Yeoman and co-chair for the 2011 TOLA Sevens Series. Due to feedback we have received from many of the participants, we are going to experiment with a condensed season by moving the finals to the last week of July.

Tentatively, the TOLA schedule is as follows:

Other tournaments to be aware of (more to come) are Liberty  Fest (formerly Lone Star Classic) being played on 5/28 (Farmers Branch, TX), The West Qualifier #1 on 6/25 (Dallas, TX – #2 is on 7/9 in KC & #3 is on 7/23 in Denver) and Mudfish (Dallas, TX) on 8/6.

This Weekend’s Weather – Confirm/Cancel Matches and Referees

Due to the upcoming weather apocalypse, please make extra sure that the referee match notification protocol has been followed. Many referees and teams may be unable to travel. We really need to think hard about Friday AND Saturday’s schedule. The roads will potentially still be a mess on Saturday morning. Friday night in Houston looks dismal at best. Looks like we all have to adjust to the new ice age.
